Who is Next Step?

Next Step Pregnancy and Relationship Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals in Union County, Oregon. Our motto is we’ll walk with you and we mean it! Life can be uncertain. When you need someone to talk to or somewhere to go where you will be encouraged and cared for, Next Step is here.

Next Step has been serving Union County since 1992 - formerly as Birthright until 2006 and then as Next Step Pregnancy Information Center until 2019. We are funded entirely by local individuals and churches in eastern Oregon. We receive no government funding or grants, and while we are affiliated with Heartbeat International, we receive no financial support from them. All support comes from this community - your neighbors. In addition, all of our services are free; we gain nothing financially from our clients.

Common Questions

How much does an office visit cost?

All of our services are free!

How long is an office visit?

The urine pregnancy test takes approximately fifteen minutes. However, your visit may be longer if you choose to take advantage of other free services we offer.

Do you give out contraception?

No, we are not a medical clinic; we do not give out medications. We can give you information about how different contraceptives work, the female reproductive system, and how effective some contraceptives are (or are not) against STIs and STDs.

What are my options if I’m pregnant?

During your visit, we can discuss your options: parenting, adoption, and abortion– including procedures and risks involved. Our desire is for you to have the information you need to make an informed decision for your future.* Click here to learn more about your pregnancy options.

Do you provide abortions?

We do not provide or refer for abortions, but we can help you! Please come in for an office visit so you can discuss your options in a caring and safe environment where you will be given all the time you need to think and talk about your next step.

Do you do adoptions?

We can give you information to get you started on your adoption journey, but we are not an adoption agency. We encourage you to use a reputable adoption agency as part of your adoption plan. We also understand that making an adoption plan takes time and information; we would be happy and honored to be a part of your support team.

Do I need an appointment?

No, you do not need an appointment, walk-ins are always welcome. However, if you would like to call ahead and let us know you are coming the wait may be shorter before you are helped.

How confidential is my appointment?

We take client confidentiality very seriously and do everything we can to ensure your privacy. Your client information is protected, we will not share with anyone about your visit or that you were in our office, and you choose who you bring to your appointments. Your information will not get shared unless you choose to do the sharing.**

Do you have services for those of us who are living with an abortion in our past?

Yes! We have individuals trained and available to walk with you on your healing journey.  You can meet one-on-one or in a support group, depending on what you want/need. For more information, click here.

*Next Step Pregnancy and Relationship Center does not perform or refer for medical or chemical abortions nor do we provide abortion pills.  Our desire is to provide accurate and up-to-date information for women (and their partners) so individuals can make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
