First Step is a life skills and risk avoidance program for students from 4th grade through college-age. This program teaches basic life skills and risk avoidance with topics ranging from communication and decision making to pre-marital sex, alcohol use, and drug abuse. Individuals participate and learn through age-appropriate lessons and activities. First Step focuses on helping individuals understand and recognize their self-worth and value so that they may find confidence in themselves and not in the opinions of others.
First Step may be used in one-on-one or group settings including school classrooms, after-school programs, kid’s clubs, and church groups. The program may be taught over a series of weeks or months. First Step is taught by trained individuals who have studied and received their Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) certificates.
